Questions regarding V ticket rules

I am quite confused with regards to V ticket rules.

I once was able to book a V class ticket courtesy of Marco Polo, but my travel agent can't issue it.

I was also told V class ticket requires a minimum of 2 people traveling.

I get the impression that some travelers are able to fly on a v class ticket alone. The lowest class ticket I've been able to fly solo in are L class tickets.

Would someone help clarify the v-class ticket requirement for me? Would I even be able to fly on a V class ticket solo?

Your TA is most certainly wrong on this one. You can travel solo on V-class tickets. But if you are getting your V class ticket via MPO, you might have to have it issued by CX eServices instead of by your TA.

Your TA might have gotten it confused with GV2 tickets which means you need 2 to check-in and travel together.

Note that different originating cities have different fare rules for booking classes.

Some booking classes are obvious as 'lowest' but they don't exist in certain markets.

Also when you book with MPC directly , TAs cannot 'take over' the booking in the days of paper tickets. With e-ticketing, the TAs themselves must first make the booking in whatever class they need to be in, then either you or the TA call MPC to guarantee the seat. Then the TA can issue the ticket.

Guy Betsy is correct. V, even L, does not exist in all markets, and can sometimes be seasonal. So far I see that M is the lowest booking class that always exists.

We cannot tie fare rules to booking classes. Fare rules may vary with promotions, packages and even with contracts with customers or TAs.

what is this? Dumb TA used the same handbook? I used to have the TA that told me similar things: "oh, no V class for you" until I dump him and get a real TA and the world is well. Time to dump your TA because he's either ignorant or lying, neither of which you want as quality as your TA.

It is really route-dependent. For TPE-HKG-BAH-HKG-TPE, H is the lowest available now.

Agree! TPE-HKG-TYO-HKG-TPE has L as the lowest available.

Definitely more research is in order. My agent booked me in L but I was wait listed. When I called MPC to clear my wait list, the agent actually re-booked me in V class. When I called my travel to issue, she said she couldn't as, according to her, she can only issue V class ticket by pairs.

At the time, the difference in the ticket price was not enough for me to inquire further research, but reading FT got me curious.

A call to several travel agents is in order tomorrow.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B176 Safari/7534.48.3)

What is your routing? We should be able to dig out the fare subclass relatively ease?

Indeed he is correct. I checked with another travel and confirmed this with the local Cathay office.

From CGK -- V class tickets must be issued in multiples of 2 only. Lowest booking class for flying solo is L class.

Thank you for pointing out fare rules may be different from different originating cities. That was the key.
