Which gates at BKK?
My first post on CX forum, so be kind... A friend and I will meet at BKK airport when our flights arrive next Thursday night. She will fly CX from HKG, I will arrive on UA from NRT. I am scheduled to arrive first (I have landed in BKK 27 times already, so I know the routine). My friend is arriving for the first time, about 20 minutes after my arrival time, if on time. I would like to find her as quickly as possible once she deplanes, if I can do that.
I've tried several 'search' terms and have yet to strike gold here. What I need to know is, which gates CX typically uses at BKK, so that I can quickly find the gate for my friend's arrival and greet here there, rather than trying to set up some random location amongst the many duty free shops! She is a newbie to BKK and does not know where things are.
I realize, having landed at BKK so many times, that arrivals by jetway and by bus are quite random. Am I hoping for too much by asking where CX 'might' unload passengers from HKG??
Or do we just meet up somewhere prior to going through the immigration line?
Thanks!

Bangkok
Bangkok airport is quite big and arrival lines can be long at the late evening hours. The immigration and custom area are all concentrated in the middle of the main concourse (Concourse D), and it might be easier if you can just meet your friend on your respective baggage claim. Then if your flight is delayed or if your friend's flight is early, you two can find the baggage claim number easily.
There are ample of seating area near the baggage claim areas.

Yes, should be for both arrivals and departures. Every time I have flown into and out of BKK with CX it has been the G gates.
You can always elect to meet at the entrance to one of the immigration halls or the APEC/VIP bit in the middle. But for your friend, it may be easier for you to greet them off of their flight.

Yes, I agree, meeting closer to my friend's gate is the best idea, if we can manage that. I will head in the direction of the G gates when I land. If I don't make it all the way to her gate, we'll at least meet somewhere along the way.
Thanks!

Lucky mentioned today that his BKK-HKG flight on CX was using the C gates on a recent flight, and it was a bit of a haul.

Does this happen often?

My guess is, there might have a group of VIP (think very very top government officials on diplomatic trips) on board who will use the secret C concourse VIP/Diplomatic channel so CX flight used the C gate. Otherwise I really do not know why CX would be in concourse C, a Thai territory.
By the way the picture is wrong. A should be G, G should be A; C should be E, E should be C, and then change B and F over that would be right.

The last few times (which was two weeks ago), they've been using D gates; D2 to be exact. My flights to KHI and HKG were all using D gates. It's NOT CLOSE TO THE LOUNGE AT ALL! It's not a bad walk when you're arriving into BKK, but when it comes time to board, allow a good 15 minutes of walking.

I would echo those who have suggested meeting at baggage claim or some other central location. Especially with only a 20-minute difference in arrival times, if one of you tries to meet the other at the other's arrival gate, it seems to raise the possibility of a lot of wandering/getting lost if one or the other flight is delayed. If you agree to meet just before immigration or at the baggage claim, you've settled on one place that you can know in advance. Trying to meet at the arrival gate sets a moving target for yourself.
