CX889 Delayed

Does anyone know why CX 889 was 78 min late leaving YVR last night?

The pilot was found dead in his hotel before the flight took off, hence the delay.

Apologies, got mixed up with 888/889, especially with this being so recent I thought of it immediately.

RIP to him and peace to his family, and I am so glad it didn't happen when he's actually flying the plane.

I believe CX889 has the same plane as CX888. If CX888 is late, then all subsequent routes with the same plane will be delayed no?

Nope, CX888 comes back as 841 I think. And CX840 (?) comes back as 889

Thank you for all the replies, and rip to the pilot in Hong Kong.

I checked CX840 before posting and it arrived on time and 889 from JFK was on time.

I've been on this flight in the past and it was delayed for a couple of hours because the windspeed at the airport was too low - apparently at a minimum speed it helps mitigate to takeoff noise and is a requirement because of the time of takeoff (early hours)

We just had to wait until windspeed picked up

888 HKG-YVR-JFK --->841 JFK-HKG non-stop
840 HKG-JFK non-stop --->889 JFK-YVR-HKG
830 HKG-JFK non-stop --->831 JFK-HKG non-stop
846 HKG-JFK non-stop --->845 JFK-HKG non-stop

According to http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...geyourtrip/a_d, I think the FLT first took off at YVR on time, but had to turn back for some reason, and made a second take off.

That was the case back when that was the only FLT pair CX had to JFK (8 years ago).
