RT UG on separate TKTs?

I remember it used to be possible to redeem a round-trip upgrade award that involves separate underlying TKTs, i. e., the outbound is on one TKT, whereas the inbound is in another. However, The MPO agent (one the the more professional ones) just told me that it cannot be done. Is this something that got changed recently or perhaps due to the PSS migration? Anyone has recent experience in this?

Thank you!

Now after a month I finally have the "real" answer. It was possible to do this before the PSS migration. However, the system can no longer issue a RT UG on separate TKTs. In an UG booking where I asked them to TKT a month ago, an agreement had been made between MPO and me. I would drop one of the sectors, and they would issue the reward as 2 one-way UGs and then re-credit the difference to my account.

I fail to see how migrating is "upgrading" their systems if it makes services worse for us frequent travelers.

I used to issue upgrades on separate tickets very often and this is really going to annoy...
