BN question

Im off to DPS this week and logged on exactly as the online check in kicked in 48 hours before, looking for a BN of 1 or so. For some reason my BN was 44. Any ideas how this was the case?

Connecting pax/special tour groups/checkin opened earlier.
What is this obsession with bn1

As Silver I normally can't be bothered, but for peak holiday season doing BN-1 certainly can land you an OP-UP (I did TPE turn on Xmas and got a Op-up)

Connecting pax 48 hours before a flight? The BN helps with op-ups during peak times.

Yes connecting pax lets say they can also olci48 hours before their flight and of course their flight will be before this flight so olci for the subsequent sector will also be open

As for BN I am not 100% convinced that it really affects the opup that much
I have been bn2xx for the last few flights and had opup on them

Well the "science" behind the BN has never been confirmed but it certainly can't hurt your chances, and even if it helps your changes a little it's worth it.

Nope....simply not true. If your first sector is 48 hours out, and the second one is say 52 hours out (or any amount over 48 hours), even if it's on the same itinerary only the first flight is available for OLCI. Each sector must be 48 hours out or less.

Most likely because of tour groups. They want to make sure they can seat together.

Which wouldn't make a difference to op-up because tour groups rarely get op-ups.

That is what I remember too.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. If a tour group I wonder how 44 sets of data could be entered in the time it took me to do just one? Anyway, just curious, thanks.

I'm not sure. I know when I've traveled with 3 or 4 people at the same time before, I can check in for all of us at the same time. So maybe a TA managed to do some massive check-in for 44 people? I'm not sure, to be honest (although I am sure that it wasn't pax on connecting flights checking in before the 48 hours, as suggested earlier).

As I've mentioned before, my sources say that BN doesn't play a part in upgrades.

The group check-in desk at the airport can easily do so!

They can even issue 44 sets of boarding passes and baggage tags before the group arrives at the airport.

Not sure if it is related - I read from the newspaper that from this year tour group operators can give the travellers' passports to airlines 'a few days' before departure for speedier check-in.
