Mileage Run to Diamond

So Cathay have kindly extended my MPC qualification period by a month and I now have to fly just over 9,000 miles by the end of November to reach Diamond. Anyone know the cheapest way to achieve this? Any tips appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I found HKG-LAX (via NRT) on AA.com for $922 (approx $7200hkd) - booking class Q - which should give me 14500 miles, but just wondered if there was anything better than that.

Thanks! Australia is great, but have already been to Sydney this year

Seeing as I am doing this run to achieve status only, cost is most important to me, before destination.

HKG-ORD. It is not as cheap as AA (but you are at least on CX metal). It is HKD$8922 ai.

There's promotion for double Asiamiles to Helsinki on Finair from HK in all classes till Nov 30th
https://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/earn...0007d21c39RCRD

HKG-HEL return in Y is 9700miles or so, which mean u get about 19k Asiamiles plus 9.7k club miles.

Fares heavily dependent on dates and sales, cheapest I priced up at about 7k HKD inclusive of tax when they had their sales but when i just checked, it was about 9k minimum.

but you get a nice Aurora-trip if you are lucky.

If you do it within Nov. (to and return), then HKG-ORD is the way to go, does Hong Kong based members get Triple Miles bonus like US based members?

If it were me I'd do a weekend in SIN and a weekend in JKT in business class. That should get you 9,000 miles without having to deal with the jet-lag.

Depending on how long you intend to be away you might consider a hotel package in Fiji (NAN), or just visit AKL. Whilst the fare may be cheaper to Sydney, it's a very expensive city to stay in at the moment.

There are cheap tickets on CX ex-Taipei so why don't you consider this?

As for AA's special via Tokyo, I would not go with them on the ultra longhaul. Stick with CX as they will value your business more.
