I'll be travelling Cathay first class AMS-HKG-AMS in november. Luckily 747 service remains on the days I am scheduled to travel. Hopefully no more changes coming up... I have not yet received any info about the new departure time.
I'll be flying AMS-HKG CX270 / 271 on 27th Oct and 9th of Nov.
I can confirm CX271 will be a A340. When I checked the CX website (manage booking) the plane has now been changed to 34B (A340). CX270 is still planned with the 747. Previously both flights were scheduled with the 747.

Hmm It makes sense though, I'm assuming that soon maybe next year CDG will get a 77W ?

Its a shame to see all this reduction to Europe. I was kinda hoping CX would expand its European destinations to places like MAN, ZRH and Spain.

I could understand reduction for January to March, but having the cuts from October doesnt look so good. I guess they have to publish for the whole Winter schedule not just half.

Double check your flights they have slotted in a whole bunch of plane swops to A340

Thanks fot the info. According to Flight24.com, 747 and A340 have served the HKG-AMS route as scheduled since October 30th when the winter schedule took place. Do you have another source for aircraft swops?

My flights still show 747 both ways. If they were to change aircraft to A340, would I be downgraded or rerouted through i.e Frankfurt to get First class?

The system will automatically downgrade you but you could call in and arrange to be rerouted via FRA. But AMS is unlikely to have ad hoc swaps because it would seriously stuff up crew scheduling. The only thing you'd need to worry about is for whatever reason CX decide to cut the 74A and switch over to all 34B ops, as is what just happened to AKL this past weekend for flights between 1 Feb and 24 Mar.

Thanks, good to hear your opinion. My flights are in two weeks so I am optimistic that 74A will stick. Besides, outbound flight to HKG looks quite full both in first and business according to the expertflyer. By changing the aircraft to 34B, Cathay would have far more unhappy people to deal with than only me.

The problem to switch you on the day would mean you fly the next day as nearly all the flights apart from London leave at the roughly the same time and are mainly one flight a day
