Will be joining MarcoPolo soon

I have yet to sign up for the Cathay / MarcoPolo club and thought I'd ask to see if there are any referral bonuses out there for other members before I pull the trigger.

not that I know of either.
You might be able to get out of the 50USD sign-up fee (search the forum for more advice)

how much you're planning to fly. if you clock 30000 club miles in the 1st 2-3 months you can avoid the 50USD fee by just going on Asiamiles. they will comp you silver when you reach 30,000 club miles.

then again, if you could scoop out 30,000 club miles in 2-3 mths then you probs dont care for the 50USD as well?...

and how about his flights being in J... some people on this forum reported to sign-up on board and got it waived. For me, my TA put some bookings in and got me SL comped.

the ISM handed me an app form and waived the $50 fee while I was traveling to SFO in J (my first LH trip after my 18th bday)
after exchanging some emails with MPC, they finally comped me SL after 2 months

my sis, who just turned 18 last week, traveled 50,000+ miles last year; in which 30,000+ miles were on CX metals.
I called MPC during HK time midnight, the supervisor offered to waive the $50 fee but only GR; so I kindly rejected her.
I called again a few hours later (HK morning), a different supervisor offered SL immediately.

Interesting. It does seem, from various posts here, that CX only *sometimes* automatically comp people to MPC SL from Asiamiles when they traveled 30K miles or more. Or was it in this case the annual date hasn't arrive yet? Maybe had you waited for a new year CX would of automatically upgraded you anyway?

i think this "perk" is a bit new that we can pull up some generalizations. but for my mum, she got SL after flying some 22K club miles(when there was the 70% status qualification "promo"). her year ends in nov and she got SL in may. def not at the year-end.

similar case for my mum too.
she got GR from the AE card years ago, and got promoted to SL at ~24k club miles.
