FA work to rule

I flew HKG-DPS on Feb 11 in J. It was scheduled as 747. When arrived at airport got seats 1K but told that flight delayed by 55 min (late arrival of ac). Go to the gate 30 min before departure. Plane was there but no boarding and a lot of discussion among CX people at the gate. Gate staff told me that the crew was not willing to fly because of late departure. I will skip various unpleasant episodes but we finally boarded a regional 777 3++ hours late and the captain explained on audio that the previous crew did not want to fly because the one hour delay meant returning from DPS after "normal" hour. Hence CX had to use a crew/plane destined to Singapore. Captain (and purser) clearly unhappy that other crew decide to work to rule. Would that be an episode of the FAs action against management?

wow, I have never heard of that happening before. i dont see how an hour can make such a big difference. its 4.5 hours each way with about 1.5 hours turn around time in DPS. That is still well within crew operating limits. I wonder what happened to the SIN flight that your crew were supposed to be flying.

Flight was supposed to depart at 10:05 and return at 20:45.Assuming that the crew checked in for work one hour before departure (say 9am) and the flight is two hours late (crew leaves the plane at 24:00), that would mean a 15 hours day. Is that beyond "normal" hours? Is that a manifestation of the staff badwill from salary negotiations?

We are sorry for the inconvenience. "

any ideas why this would be ?

The legal operating limits for flight and cabin crew (CAD371) can be found in CAD's website
http://www.cad.gov.hk/english/flightstandards.html

According to Section 32 (for cabin crew), the cabin crew who starts work between 8am to 1pm can have a maximum flight duty period (from reporting work to engine off) of 14 hours 15 minutes for 2 sectors.

So for a 1005h departure and 2045h arrival, plus a typical 90-minute preparation time, the duty should last for 12 hours 15 minutes. An hour delay should be fine I guess?

the flight time to Penang is 3 hrs 20 minutes
They came in a bit late yesterday evening about 8 pm
The reason (not given but extracted) was 'minimum crew rest time'.
Gee, they had a flight of 3 1/2 hours only and will use same crew this morning.
CX should move its departure time as this would seem to happen every time they come in after scheduled arrival time in Penang.
