CX 744 at JFK??
Almost all of my flights are out of JFK and it's always cool to see the BA 744 and CX 773.
On saturday night I saw a CX 744 taking off and wondered where it had come from. My only guess would be it was doing JFK-YVR-HKG as JFK-HKG nonstop may be a bit out of it's range. Anybody have a clue about the substitution.

Was it more of a Silver polish paint like an AA plane or white paint like. If it's the first one then you saw a CX Cargo plane.

Either you saw a CX cargo or a non-CX aircraft. The passenger 744s have not flown to JFK since 2008. Only SFO & YVR among NA currently have the passenger 744 and should one of these flights face a diversion, it is unlikely they will be diverted to JFK considering the flight routing and distances involved.

What if one of the 773's went mechanical? Would a 744 replace it? The CX 744 I saw looked exactly like the one I've seen at SFO from time to time. This was saturday night after 8pm. It was near T7 and then it took off.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)
Seriously speaking you may encounter q 744 BCF which has exactly the same outlook as a 744 pax plane. It's been a while since JFK gets all 777.
The 744 BCF has no seats and only for frighter flight. If a 773 ER goes tech, they probably rebook you to fly via other CX NA gateways.

I went on Flight aware and confirmed all of CX's flights from JFK from Saturday. That most likely was a CX Cargo plane as I confirmed all CX pax planes were of the 773 variety.
