Do you pay full fare for J?
Obviously, very, very, very few people pay full fare for F; most redeem it or are on company dollar. But how many of you on your personal travels will pay full fare for J? Or do you only redeem J / buy it at a discount (Business D)

This is not meant to offend, but I think one of the most foolish thing one can do is buying a full fare ticket when a discounted fare is available (unless of course availability/flexibility requires). It's the same seat. Same service. You don't arrive the destination any earlier. Give the difference to charity, you'll feel a lot better.

I rarely buy J fares for personal travel. I will either go for D or I fares, or buy econ and upgrade if no D or I fares available. On occasion though have to spring for J, depending on route and timing.

But the shareholders' reports cannot differentiate between who is buying on their own dime and who is being reimbursed for business expenses. OP was asking about an individual buying his or her own ticket in full paid F or J.

As a FF noob, could anyone give me a link or a brief rundown as to what the abbreviations mean... I know D is discounted, I is award(?) and J is full fare. How about for economy / first?
Sorry bout that.

Buying Y at K-class and redeeming it up to J is probably the best route to take.
Of course if your company is feeding you the cash then you have no worries.

For business--J full-fare, D, I discounted, U (not I) award.
For economy--Y, B full-fare, H, K, L, M, V etc. discounted, T award.

On the YVR-HKG route, CX used to offer only full J fares.
However, they now offer, J, C, and D fares.
Their D fares are now what the J fares used to cost many years ago.
Also, when flying SQ, there isn't really a choice not to pay full fare as they never discount their Suites (R fare).

I never buy full-fare J personally, only for company travel (for that, we end up almost exclusively buying full fare J for point-to-point or F via AONEs when we need to hit multiple stops). Personal travel for me are D and I.
