Oneworld Multi-carrier award

Am contemplating booking one. Two questions:

1. What's the definition of a stopover? It allows max of 5, so let's say I need to go from NRT to BOS but will need to connect thru LAX, I assume LAX doesn't count as a stopover?

2. JAL - Anyone know whats' likely to happen if I book an award flight on JAL (for travel early next year) and JAL goes into bankruptcy again or leaves oneworld alliance?

Thanks.

1) if a plane change is within 24 hour it is transfer (well, transit), > 24 hour = stopover
2) as you likely get a ticket stock of 160-xxxxx that you are covered by CX, they have to accommodate you if you got screwed by that

According to the asiamiles website,

"2.You can make a maximum of five stopovers, two transfers and two open-jaws at either origin, en-route or turnaround point, subject to airline partners' terms and conditions."

So your NRT-LAX, LAX-BOS will count as a transfer, not a stopover.

One hint: you can use a stopover as a transfer. I've had to do that once, when I had 4 stopovers + 3 transfers. They counted one of the transfers as a stopover to comply with the rules.

No idea about your JAL problem. Book AA instead, just so that you don't have to worry about it.
