A couple of observations:

- 548/549 transferred to HND, operated by 74A. This will be the first regular daily 74A appearance to Tokyo since the capacity reduction a year ago. And this looks like be the only Tokyo flight with long-haul product.

- Red-eye to NRT (524) will be operated by regional 330.

Looks like CX gets better aircraft utilisation now. Only 1 aircraft sitting at NRT overnight.

I guess there is no NRT-HKG red eye due to NRT curfew and arriving in HKG in the middle of the night when there are not many ground staff around and very few airport services.

I seem to remember the old red eye flights to OSA being popular with students - Japan is a trendy place to go for HK people, and this flight should be relatively cheap, and saves an expensive hotel night...

That's probably right. No reasonable person traveling for business would take a redeye to Japan unless it was an emergency. NRT also makes sense - no point of getting in town so early in the morning!

Cathay's answer to the ANA charter flight that leaves HK at 1am for Haneda and returns back at 12 midnight http://www.japancorp.net/Article.Asp?Art_ID=17519 very popular with post-80s

As JAL / ANA are pulling the plug for HND redeye I have no doubt the plane will be filled by ex-HK tourist, and for the NRT redeye it connects to AA DFW flight, the load in the business class should be OK

548 / 549 should warrant the use of A380 (read: slot restricted and high load factor)

The use of redeye might able to share some load of Air Hong Kong's and freighter's cargo load.

I thought if CX were to launch red-eye to Tokyo, it will be HND airport. Hongkong airliners have 2 daily night-time slots (10pm-7am) at HND (I'm not sure if these slots were allocated or not). I assume they thought from-HND-to-HKG red-eye or 7am-departure wouldn't work.

Anyway, in the end, NRT losses a couple of HKG flights later this year: one by JAL, one by CX.

Still not loaded in the CX online booking engine

The HND flights are still not loaded for sale online with cx. Would like to do an "open jaw" into NRT in Aug and return from HND in Nov as part of a RTW connector.

Does anybody have an idea as to when the HND flights will be loaded? It's only 2 months until the first flight and still nothing on cx.com.

I guess for now, you can only book with CX Office. Just managed to make a booking with the CX office in Singapore to HND.

Thanks, I was able to buy over the phone. For those interested, HND flights were made available to book online today.

Looks like the slots went to UO instead (http://www.mlit.go.jp/common/000126632.pdf) They will launch HKG-HND on Dec 19 and HND-HKG on Dec 20 using the late night/early morning slots.
