Waitlist on "V" class, Cfm on "M" class. Will waitlist ever clear?

I am trying to get a return ticket from SIN-TPE via HKG. On my return sector on 9 Aug on CX405 connecting to CX715, the "V" class is full and currently on waitlist. To avoid the possibility of the waitlist not able to clear, I have booked on confirmed seats on these 2 same flights on "M" class.

In this case, will the "V" class booking ever clear since from the records, it is obvious that I have a seat on a higher fare? The booking has yet to be ticketed. The fare difference for booking on "M" instead of "V" works out to around SGD100 more.

Not sure, but you should pay attention to the ticketing deadline. If you miss the deadline, there will be a chance you may end up paying for an even higher booking class.

Thanks. My ticketing dateline is 2 Aug, which is quite a lot of ample time from now till then.

Try anyway...

I usually ask my TA to book "V" class (even if waitlist) then call MPO to confirm booking. Usually takes just a few minutes. If agent is hesitant at first I remind him/her of Gold MPO status and minimum 72-hour seat guarantee, which they would do for at least "V" economy class. I see you are Silver MPO (so seat not guaranteed, I think?), but still worth trying, IMHO. Good luck!

You are right. Call anyway. Sometimes MPC can release seats.

Thanks. In fact, this is booked directly from the CX office in Singapore. I would have assumed that they will be able to try to get confirmation.

My thought is that since I am confirmed on higher fare, they may be less inclined to release the waitlist on the lower fare, which this technically reduces the revenue CX is going to earn.

Happened to me last month, booked direct with CX Cebu office, waitlisted for the longest time on V, confirmed on M, they extended my booking until 2 days before the flight, but still cannot confirm V, so i had no choice but purchase M, but i got upgraded on the return flight so it was at least worth paying the higher fare

The bright side of V class not opening up means that your flight might be overbooked and you will have a chance of an op-up.

Thanks! In fact, I have tried this before and it is the same situation. The V class didnt clear and I wasn't upgrade either though it is a full flight. In fact, I have not been upgraded for a long time. Only once when I first joined Marco Polo as Green Member in Y1999 on SIN-BKK.
