Qs regarding duration of waitlist
I'm flying 2 weeks from now SFO-HKG. I had called earlier today to check for upgrade availability and I was put on WL. I later realized the agent put me on the WL for CX873 but my ticket is on CX879.
I actually prefer CX873, but my TA couldn't get me tickets in K class for that flight.
Anyways, my question is:
1)Can I call again and ask them to put me on WL for CX879 as well? Is it limited to just 1 request?
2)Also, currently it is showing that the WL request will expire 14 May, 18:00 (HKG time). This would be 5 days before the flight. If it doesn't clear until that date, do I need to request again to be put on WL?

1. I did multiple waitlisting for my wife before, but I do not what the current rule is. However, there is no point to waitlist on a flight you cannot get or do not have an underlying ticket. You should change your waitlist to the other flight.
2. You can redo waitlisting again. My feeling is that CX will release availability 2-3 days ahead. You can also try to do instant upgrade at SFO when you check in.

I called again to ask them to put me on the WL for CX879 and the agent noticed I didn't have ticket for CX873 and she canceled it right away.
She suggested calling after May14 to renew or try at the airport.

I am afraid the whole process may need to be restarted from scratch. As upgrade requires availabilities for BOTH the underlying ticket AND upgrade award bucket, this can be tricky. I can only suggest that you check with your TA and Asia Miles.

Thanks. Called MPC and they were able to change the dates(actually put me on WL for BOTH: underlying "K" ticket and upgrade).

A few months ago, I asked MPC to change booking class (before ticketing). I did that in the past without any problem. However, I encountered a problem that time. My TA could not issue the ticket because the booking reference did not show up in Sabre, but MPC could see the reference number - well, CX's IT!! I ended up asking my TA redo the entire booking before she could ticket. Your situation is different, but please watch out.

I called to clarify and they told me that CX can put me on WL(btw,its on the same booking reference) for different dates (and the upgrade request associated with it) but *if* the waitlist clears, I have to go through the TA to change the dates of the underlying tickets.
