Check-in question

Hi all,

A friend of mine asked me this, and I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd check over here to see what you guys think about it. His son will be flying back to the States for school on CX, routing KUL-HKG-JFK. He has MPC SL, but his son doesn't. Will his son be allowed to check-in at the J class counter at KUL if he is there and shows his silver card? He is not traveling.

The cardholder needs to be traveling. I would suggest that you check in online to reduce wait times.

The answer is no, the card holder needs to be traveling.

However, play dumb, show up at the J counter, and I'm sure the friendly CX agent will politely remind them that the cardholder needs to be traveling, but still check-in his son anyway. But don't expect a Biz luggage tag nor a lounge pass.

My wife has attempted this (with my Gold card a while back), a pile of FAIL. No is the answer.

Thanks! I'll be sure to pass that along. Plus, the KUL agents are usually pretty lax re. the rules (they've op-upped me many a time on KUL-HKG even though the flight was only about half-full).
