Make sure you have an account set up with the provider (car rental/hotel/airline) that you are booking travel with before you book with CapOne.

I just don't see the appeal of the price match anymore. Even if you're successful you still have to pay the higher price up front today and end up with portal credit, where in the future you might have to do the price match again and just keep kicking those dollars down the road.

Yes, it's not very appealing. I will most likely downgrade this card to Venture One next year.

Would Venture One be any more appealing? I'm not familiar with it.

Yes, it has no AF, and allows you to transfer to partners. Other than that, it's useless.

Just a warning / FYI - while scanning through dozens of local non-chain hotels in Canada, I noticed that Capital One portal is charging roughly the same price in US dollars as the hotel lists in Canadian dollars on their website. Expedia, hotels.com and others are charging the correct price. I was able to call Capital One Travel and book using the lower price. Either their fx transalation online is broken or its some bug equating USD to CAD.

any thoughts as to why a hotel would be showing up as available to book in all the travel booking sites (hopper, booking.com, expedia, orbitz, etc) but not available in any of the credit card travel portals such as C1, AMEX, Citi?

C1 travel portal

I'm sure there is good feedback somewhere on here but I can't readily spot anything - don't flame me!

I am considering dumping AX Plat and going to Venture X (need PP pass)

Since the 5X points for airline purchases has to be through the portal, wanted to get some feedback:

Search pricing? (for example, AX has the intl airline program which sounds good but deals are few and far between, beyond that I can usually find a better deal searching google flights and then going straight to the carrier, which to me is always preferred.

Other issues with booking through C1? Airlines schedule changes, voluntary changes, getting FF credit, etc.

Of course AX has 5X for airline purchases without restriction but I'm retiring soon and with them kicking us out of the Delta club don't plan to pay their $695

C1 sounds like a good deal as it is effectively $95 for PP after airline credit, but don't see myself getting the sign-on bonus if I can't find a good deal on a business class ticket on the portal.

You can't try out the portal to see if it is any good without an account so any feedback would be appreciated.

I have an immediate need to book a flight on airlink which would get me the $300 credit but don't know if I can book that through C1.

I don't use Amex portal much, so take this with a grain of salt. The couple of times I did use C1 portal for plane tix, it went alright. I didn't encounter any IRROPS nor did I have to change my plans though.

The hotel reservations I made from C1 portal, though, is more problematic. I booked a rate that allegedly included breakfast but when I got to the hotel, hotel showed me their system indicated my rate was room only.

I don't use the Amex portal outside of FHR so I cannot speak if this is also an issue making general hotel reservations on Amex's site.

I personally do not count the $300 credit at full face value; to me it is worth $240 (20% discount). You also get 10k C1 points upon VX renewal, on top of the $300 credit. Also, AU's are free.

You should also consider this: stellar credit+responsible spending are not guarantees to getting approved for C1VX. YMMV. Good luck.

C1 portal is run by Hopper. I realize the card portals are not always exactly the same as the public ones, but itll give you an idea. I dont know if Hopper has a desktop site - they used to be app only - so if thats the case, itll be a little different still, but flow, etc. should be similar.

Have you actually compared the two? I find the pricing between C1 Travel portal and Hopper different - sometimes drastically so. I don't bother checking Hopper anymore; I always log on to C1 to check for pricing.

Not questioning, just wondering if it's just me.

C1 pricing is hit or miss. There have been a few times where the price has actually been under the best publicly available prices. Other times, it's drastically more expensive (the last Four Seasons I looked at was significantly more expensive on C1).

Question - if you look in your travel portal now at the "travel creditds", are you seeing the history of travel credit use (credit/debit)? As of a few days ago, I only see the overall balance, not the ledger of transactions (which sucks). Anyone willing to open the site/try and report? Would very much appreciate the information.

Had to cancel a flight to FL that was today (didnt want to fly into a pending storm), but the flight took off as scheduled, so not covered for any travel insurance from C1VX card, and ticket non refundable. Was given an AA flight credit - but its within the C1 Travel system, not on AA.com - has anyone been able to get C1Travel/Hopper to release that so I can just use on AA.com directly? It seems to rebook , I've got to *CALL IN* whenever I'm ready to C1Travel - a little annoying.

I am looking to use my $300 C1 credit to book Alaska main cabin flight, non-refundable on C1 travel portal. If I later need to cancel can I have the fare sent to my Alaska "wallet" with no need to deal with C1? Need to wait 24 hours I think.

You have to call AA and pay a $50 take over fee for this to happen.
