problems with upgrades
I am really having a problem here. I hope someone out there can help. (Maybe Ken??) I just called CP res to try for an upgrade between YYZ and YVR on CP987, they said there is no upgrades avliable. However, there are upgrades avliable for earlier flights such as CP7, CP983... They said it would cost me $100 change fee, do anyone feel it is worth it or not?? I really don't want to sit in Y class for 4 1/2 hours and only get 1/2 point.

Well by any reckoning, $100 is not bad to pay for an upgrade.
The extra miles are worth around $40. $60 for 5 hours of comfort and decent food is definitely worth it by any means.
Of course, you could try your luck at the gate, but I wouldn't chance it if $100 does the trick.

The $100 is worth it if you get a confirmed upgrade at time of reservation.
Failing that, I still have been batting 1000 on upgrades with Air Canada even though they waitlisted me on the return home yesterday for one of the flights. There were still several empty seats in business when the plane left even though they were showing no more upgrade space available. Check out the availability of J or C class seats on CP for your flight with EasySabre or ITN. Might tell you that you have a good chance anyway if you see availability.
