YYZ-HKG

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong this summer with my family. Does anyone know how's service on CP, AC, and CX? Which is better? Thanks for your advice, your help is greatly appreciated. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If you check out the newsgroup rec.travel.air you'll probably find that most people think CP's service is better and friendlier, which has generally been my experience. The acid test: How many times has AC had to apologize to its passengers in the last year, vs. how many times for CP. I think it's 3 or 4 to 0.

Hi,
I found a interesting thing while I went to a travel agent and check for price for YYZ-HKG yesterday. CP will use the 747 with the Proud Wings logo on the first leg (YYZ-YVR) instead of a DC10 during summer time this year. Personally, I think it'll be great to have a 747 than the DC10. Anyways, is this the first time the CP 747 appear in YYZ? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Then you're in luck. I understand that those 747's have also had 7 rows of seats removed from the economy section, so you should have a lot more room. New interiors as well.

Go for CP, as they have more flights to HK than AC each week. CX is also a good choice, but definitely the leg room will be less than CP.

If you are always travelling between Canada and HK, like me, than you should choose CP rather than AC

Hi Chatter:

Thanks for your advice, this question has been bothering me for almost two weeks. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif After several feedbacks and research, I decided CP and UA will be the last two candidates. I find out that CP has a better schudule while UA is much cheaper. Although CP seems to be a better airlines than UA, but money is another problem. If I choose CP, I'd need to pay an extra $600+ (CDN) to fly with them. With $600 CDN (around $3000 HK dollar) dollar, I can do and buy a lot of things while I'm in HK. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Agincourt, I don't think you have too much to fear on UA. They seem inordinately proud of the ORD/HKG flight--lots of publicity 2 yrs ago etc etc. Supposedly they have to tow it out to the end of the runway at ORD, so it does not burn off too much fuel taxiing. I think I have seen it take off from my back yard in Chicago.

Agincount, you are right, CP or CX are the most expensive. If you want cheaper fare, you have to fly south for connecting flights like UA, Korean, or JAL. But let me remind you something, if you take the flight from HK to the States then to YYZ, you have to clear both the US customs and Canadian customs. It may be a headache.

For sure, $300 can buy a lot of stuff in HK when the sales begin in June.

Hi Chatter,
I grandma and her friend just had a visit to my family few monthes ago on UA and they didn't need to go through UA or neither the Cdn customs. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Sure, you may wonder why they didn't need to go through Cdn customs, right? Well, if I recall my memory right, they said they paid $$ to those people who wore in red uniform and stand in the airport and said: You don't need to go through customs if you come with me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif So, for the customs side, I'm not worrying much about it. Well, there's about 1-2 more weeks for my family to make up our mind. But for sure CP and UA would be two strong candidates. But personally, I like CP more than UA. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Hi,
Thanks for all the replys from everyone. As from what I heard here and elsewhere, I decided CP would be the winner of my choice this summer. I'll post a trip report if I can after I come back from HK. Once again, thanks for all of your comments and opinion. It sure made a different! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
