Canada Passport - Renewing

I'm curious when renewing a passport (canadian), do they give you a new book even though it's not filled up ?

New book.

If there's any country that renews a passport by using the same book, I sure don't know about it.

Yes, you get a new book.

There are/were a few countries extending validity through an observation label affixed into the ppt (page 3 or 5), but the problem with doing so was that the expiry date within the codelines at the bottom of the biopage would not be updated.
