Montreal Parking
Staying in Montreal for a week in March with a car. Don't want to pay the $25-30 daily parking fee at the Hyatt Regency. My idea, since the hotel is right on the green line, is to park at a commuter lot, like at the end of the green line, and just go out to get the car whenever I need it.
For various reasons I need the car the whole week, but want to park it for free. Is this a viable option to do that?

You are looking at a minimum of 30 minutes to get to those parking lots anytime you will need your car. The other issue is snow... Some of the lots will either be closed at night or your car will simply be surrounded by snow (the snow removal guys usually have "fun" burying cars that are in the way to teach the owners a lesson)...
You can probably find 10-15$ a day parking in the area around the Hyatt (south of Rene-Levesque)

"free" and "parking" rarely go together in Montreal, especially in the downtown area. I agree with YULbigfoot, you might find cheaper parking in another lot, but you're not going to find anything free within a reasonable distance. And snow is just going to complicate matters.

Traffic alone would make me not want to do that...
Cheaper parking at the office complexe that is part of the hotel, you just have to figure out how to get from one part to the other. Hyatt valet with in and out $26.00 (plus tax)

$19.00 tax in, no in and out, but I suppose you might be able to show a ticket or something. It seems like it is all automated with no humans to explain things to.

The AMT's website indicates that the nearest free park-and-ride lots to downtown are at Namur (orange line, west side of the mountain) and Radisson (green line, far [north]east).
I have no idea, though, whether you can park overnight, and various web searches (in English and French) haven't turned up any answers.
(I'm going this weekend but don't intend to use the car while in town.)
