Vancouver Restaurant List
Just thought I'd archive a list here of restaurants that Vancouver Sun food critic Mia Stainsby listed in this Saturday's Sun (Oct 20). I really like her picks and have been to many of them. I've stripped the commentary, otherwise this post would be huge. The Sun keeps a 30 day archive so you can pull up the articles for the next few weeks (http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/n...ate=2007/10/20)

I really wish she hadn't listed CRAVE. It's our favourite restaurant, 10 minutes walk from our house. Now we'll never get a table! :D
|
Hmm, haven't tried Crave yet but been meaning to. The wife has (with her lunch crew) and really likes it.

People should try a new Indian restaurant called Atithi in Kitslano. It is situated at the junction of Broadway and Burrard Street (2445 Burrard St, Vancouver, Phone: 604 731 0221). Lunch Buffet is eat as much as you can for ONLY $7.95. Dinner is very cheap and you dont even have to order for rice or Chapati as it is served along with the main course. Worth trying.

Any updated personal favourite list of restaurants in Vancouver?
|
Two of my favourite French restos are: Bistro Pastis and Trafalgar's Bistro.
|
One of our newish (<1yr) favourite best value places is Les Faux Bourgeois. Very friendly staff also.
Interestingly... Jules fell off our list when after we kind of noticed a bit of a change. We then found out the restaurant was sold and that the former owner set up Les Faux with one of the former owners of Go Fish!. |
I've ate at Lumiere pre- and post-Daniel Boulud, most recently in June. It just keeps getting better.

I'll give it a try tonight! ^ |
Yes, generally need to book notably in advance in order to get a reservation at Les Faux. Alternatively, to give away a bit of a trick, you can go early and eat at the bar (which is common and service is fine).
The current menu (when we went a few weeks ago) is slightly different from what you see online. The prices are generally the same but it appears they dropped some items and added a few new ones to the mains. They also have daily specials and I'm guessing some of the old regular items make a guest appearance on the specials list (eg. The salade frisee aux lardon was no longer on the menu but was on the specials the night we last went). |
I really like Happy Valley which is nearby Rupert skytrain station. When I'm in town, I demand my cousins and friends to take me there. :p:p:p
Happy Valley Chinese Seafood Restaurant 3432 Lougheed Highway Vancouver, BC V5M 2A4 Tel: (604) 255-2280 There is a Vietnamese Pho restaurant, the name escapes me but I know it's right by the Surrey skytrain station. Damn good soup. ^^ |
The Market at the Shangri-La has very good food (and service) as well as surprisingly-reasonable service. Normally I'd avoid it but the restaurant's owner has picked good hands to run the place.
Maenam at the old Gastropod has excellent and pretty authentic Thai food unlike the other Thai restaurants in town (I'd say most of them are Chinese restaurants in disguise). I'd still say the cuisine at Maurya (Indian food) is superb. Takeouts, if you wish to go that route, are very generous compared to your average Indian restaurant. |
