I really like Happy Valley which is nearby Rupert skytrain station. When I'm in town, I demand my cousins and friends to take me there. :p:p:p
Happy Valley Chinese Seafood Restaurant 3432 Lougheed Highway Vancouver, BC V5M 2A4 Tel: (604) 255-2280 There is a Vietnamese Pho restaurant, the name escapes me but I know it's right by the Surrey skytrain station. Damn good soup. ^^ |
Voya, in the new Loden Hotel, is very good.

Copper Chimney attached to the Hotel Le Soleil on Hornby, near the waterfront is decent place.
(Or, some may know it as the place beside Brandy's. ;) , but not I). http://www.copperchimney.ca/ |
I believe Copper Chimney was at the EAT Vancouver a number of years back and the wife and I tried some dishes from them. Liked it and wanted to try the restaurant but never got around to it.

IIRC, the head chef from LeSoleil was featured in an old episode of (the original) Iron Chef. I believe he lost in the end, but it's quite an honor to be tapped to compete.
No idea if he's still there. |

I've been meaning to head out to Happy Valley for dim sum but haven't gotten around to it. We tried once a few months back and the line up was nuts... which I suppose is a good sign. Heard some really good word of mouth reviews on it.

Finally got around to trying out Happy Valley for dim sum today. It was ok. Found the value pretty good for dim sum because the food was decent and many of the dishes having generally large portion for the prices. I wouldn't mind going back there again (would like to try dinner) but I wouldn't consider it a destination as I wouldn't bat an eye finding another place to eat if I couldn't get in here.

Last weekend we ate at Les Faux Bourgeois, Guu (japanese pub style on Thurlow) and a couple other places - dim sum in Richmond and some small inexpensive homestyle french cafe on Marine Dr in West Vancouver near 15th st.
All four were excellent turning this into one of the best (and reasonably priced) gastronomical trips in recent memory. ^ |
For Dim Sum: My girlfriend and I eat at Red Star around Granville and 60th/70th. The dim sum is excellent!
I agree with Vijs, but who wouldn't? We usually eat at cheap places on Davie like Donair King and Yamato Sushi. I am from Hawaii and I crave that stuff until I get my once a month fix |
again maurya was sold
oh! not again, this is the fourth time the legendary[B] MAURYA INDIAN CUISINE VANCOUVER BC was sold .This time not to the car sales man but to the man who is really known for making successful buffet place(ALL INDIAN BUFFET AND SWEETS).At least the food will be better than the last owner.Best of luck
|
Geez.... I avoid AYCE places like the plague. Hope Maurya doesn't go down that road.

Great place in Yaletown: Rodney's Oyster House
|
Went to les Faux Bourgeois on the weekend. Solid competent bistro fare (liberal use of lardons in the onion soup and alsacienne tart makes for good flavour) at very good prices. I presume that's what the attraction is? BTW, even the bar can be reserved (and was on Saturday evening).
