YVR Line up time?

YVR Line up time?
Hi, this is my first time flying with JAL without a seat reservation... I was wondering, how early i should start lining up for a flight to check in luggage and reserve a seat? the flight is at 12 45pm tmmrw, and they said the check in counters open at 9am.. should i expect lots of people before 9am?
