Driving from Buffalo>Toronto

I'm a U.S. citizen with a recently expired passport. I'm curious if anyone has any problems crossing back to the U.S. with a U.S. driver's license, expired passport for id?

Thanks.

In April I travelled to the US by land using just my expired Canadian passport. I had no issues. I re-entered Canada with my expired passport 4 days later, again with no issues.

For land entry, valid photo i.d. and proof of citizenship are required. An expired passport may serve this purpose but because the photo is old, it may not be acceptable. If you are the driver, then your license is better for photo i.d. However, each case is a matter of judgement of the agent you encounter so advice based on experience cannot be reliable. A birth certificate or citizenship card and photo i.d. are acceptable. Check the information at the government web site for specific regulations so you can be properly informed. The US has temporarily relaxed its rules for air and sea entry for its own citizens to the level of land entry.
