The Peak Cafe - Vancouver

Taking over the premises of a closed Japanese restaurant, the Peak Cafe on Main Street (east side around 28/29th Avenue) offers western food as interpreted by the H.K. Chinese (there's a similar and more established restaurant called the Gloucester Cafe on Cambie around 18th).

I've only had the set menu ($11-15) there which comes with a soup (very hearty and rich beef vegetable) and a 2 meat (steak and some option) which is quite generous with cooked vegetables and fries. Some 8 different sauces are offered with it. The meat's served on a sizzling hot plate too for those who remember that.

The piece de resistance must be the dessert that comes with the set menu: Sweetened red beans in crushed ice with evaporate milk. Yum!

For value for money, I'd rate it highly.
