Went through on Sunday.
Poor entrance. The signage seems to herd all standard passengers to the left scanners, priority and nexus to the right scanners.
The machine took forever and the CATSA staff was absolutely miserable, especially considering zero line-up. No friendly explanation when I reached into my bag for liquids and laptop, just barking at me not to do it.
I like walking in airports, considering I’ll be confined to an aircraft soon enough. But yes - the distance would be a challenge for older flyers or those with mobility issues. That said still less steps than any trip in YYZ.
5/10. Would not recommend.

Tried it last week.
The Bad
- Signage is terrible - people all over were confused.
- Not enough scanners to get people into the actual security "area," causing a backlog.
- Moving walkways between A and B gates, and down the A pier all broken - during the holiday rush, right after they opened the new screening area. Talk about a fail.
the Good
- Nexus line moved quickly. Not as quickly as the old C nexus line, but not bad.
Overall, its a downgrade, especially for AC passengers who (a) use the C gates, or (b) want to use the MLL and are flying out of the A gates.

I haven't tried, since I've been using the nexus/VT lane at C security, but now that YYC's using the D gates for domestic flights, can domestic passengers use D security instead of the new centralized screening? It's got to be pretty much equidistant from the AC check-in/bag drop area to the MLL for an AC passenger and I haven't seen any complaints about boarding pass scanners at D.

I was actually wondering whether that checkpoint was still running, now that the centralized monstrosity is open, but the airport website says it is, so hopefully it's correct.

The D gates haven't been restricted to international since before COVID, basically. So yes, you can use the D security with a domestic BP.

I’ve passed through the new security setup a half dozen times now and I agree with most of the other posters; it’s a terrible layout. YYC used to be very convenient for AC priority flyers as the C gate security checkpoint was in a perfect location between the check-in desk and the MLL… with a trusted traveller line to boot!
I feel the worst part of the new layout is how it highlights the now abandoned air side mini bus system and funnels passengers in a bizarre manner on the way over to the C-gates. It appears that the airport is intending to completely remove the old air side shuttle system
for anyone other than specifically disabled travellers. Too bad as it was great for parents with kids looking for an air side distraction.
maybe the overall combined security location will make more sense as they work through other renovations in this part of the airport.

After having used this I can echo the sentiment this is a downgrade.
The biggest negative was having to walk from the Air Canada check-in all the way to the old WestJet gates then all the way back. This wasn't the end-of-the-world but it certainly added a lot more steps when that wasn't required before. Probably added 10 minutes extra from what was there before.
YYC needs to do something about the transportation hallways which are now a joke with the golf carts and rarely moving sidewalks.
