ETA issues with Porter

I was travelling with a European passport holder who had a valid ETA which was no problem for travel from Europe to Canada. However when returning from a side trip to the US on Porter they asked for their ETA confirmation.

The Canadian government web site is very clear that travelers should not need their confirmation or any other document. The airline should be able to look up the passport number. The agent in the US insisted this was normal and she had to ask for this from everyone.

I'm not sure why but this kind of systemic failure bothers me more than the regular simple human errors. Those are unavoidable and easy to correct but this seems to be an entrenched failure at a high level that will be hard for Porter to acknowledge let alone identify where the source of their problem is. I don't even know who to complain to.

What to bring to the airport

When we approve your eTA, it will be linked to the passport you used to apply. You need to present this passport when you check-in to your flight to Canada.

The airline staff will scan your passport to confirm that you have a valid eTA. If you do not have one, you wont be able to board your flight.
