UK to YYX to DFW transit including duty free alcohol

Flying EDI to YYZ with connection to DFW. US passport and Global Entry. Not sure how customs and immigration works? Have a 4 hr layover so plenty of time. Flying J award so so believe we have access to Maple leaf Lounge also.

Question is, do we need to go through Canadian immigration on arrival and then US immigration in Toronto? Or just US immigration and how long before the US flight typically? TIA

Also, what about duty free purchases made in Edinburgh? Is there a recheck setup like in the US where we claim our checked bags and recheck to US giving us time to put the duty free in there? Or do we not even need to if bottles (scotch) are in DF bags?

You should be fine carrying those on boards as long as the liquids are packed in security tamper-evident bags with a receipt that shows that they were purchased within 48 hours.

More details in this thread and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website.

Which airline(s) are you flying into/out of YYZ?
