Done this many times. The traveller has to quarantine not the car. You are allowed to proceed directly to your final destination. With US plates they know the car has to be returned. Enterprise will pick it up.

Out of interest I put in BUF-YYZ (24 hr rental) for a bunch of dates in April. Good availability @ apx $212 with National. However, this changes constantly.

And so it begins. Is this the first step to bringing in quarantine at land borders for non-essential travel?

https://theconversation.com/closing-...uhUk184VIcTwFE

After closing some land crossings, the government can then designate selected crossings for incoming non-essential travel only. This prevents bottlenecks hindering essential travel. Given around seven per cent of land crossings during the pandemic are deemed non-essential, and that the volume of land travel has declined by around 90 per cent during the pandemic, temporarily closing some border crossings is also practical.

Crossings remaining open for non-essential travellers should be those that had higher vehicle volumes pre-pandemic such as the Peace Arch, B.C., and Rainbow Bridge, Ont. High traffic crossings already have the necessary inbound and outbound road networks to allow ease of access. They generally also have hotels nearby. This can enable an extension of mandatory quarantine at designated sites for travellers entering by land.

If it's a big concern, you can tell customs that you're driving straight home and your (wife/husband/partner/roommate/friend/etc) will return the car for you. No one is going to follow you to see if you actually do it that way. For those who belong to National Emerald Club, the one-way rentals are a great use of your Emerald Club free days.

RT PCR Test Buffalo

I hope I’m in the right thread. Does anyone know of someplace in the Buffalo area where I can get an RT PCR test? Results back in under an hour.
Thx

Methinks that is a VERY tall order no matter where you are. In fact, logistically probably impossible

Mine have taken 24-48 hours as they must go to a lab. Instant rapid tests are not acceptable. You basically get it done then wait in Buffalo hotel.

They’re availability are discussed on the

thepointsguy

They are accepted on the

Canada travel site

I can’t yet post URLs

I know the OP asked about Buffalo but there are rapid PCR tests available. Any Abbott ID Now test site fits the bill. I took a PCR test at Carbon at PDX in Jan and results were on my phone in 15 minutes. Same with Carbon in Seattle. Although I believe they no longer guarantee the 2 hour turnaround at the Seattle location, mine came back in about half an hour. If you can find a site that does Abbott ID Now testing, results are very quick and yes, it is a PCR and is valid for Canada (I have used them for entry to Canada).

OK, thanks, that is good to know :tu:

The question was about BUF but as another data point, I understand a rapid test that’s acceptable for entry to Canada is available at T6/LAX. I read it was $150. Haven’t used it so can’t comment further.

This company has a sign in the baggage claim area at BUF advertising rapid tests. You may want to call them to ensure the rapid one they offer is acceptable for Canada.

I have emailed them and can tell you what they told me. Basically, PCR test results are returned by 6 pm the following day. Longer on weekends with results returned by Monday at 6 pm. This is $150 USD. If you go early in the morning you can get same day results (I assume 6 pm) for $425 USD. I also asked if I need to be in a car and was told I can walk through the tent. I am considering flying to Buffalo and walking across the Rainbow Bridge.

I googled the Abbott ID Now test in Buffalo a while ago and couldn’t find anything. If someone knows of it I’d like to know.

CRC99 Mar 15, 2021 4:44 am

They have them in SWFL. I found a place for $100....the analysis is onsite and takes max 20 min. Paying $425 in Buffalo is not an option as far as I'm concerned.

Slouch Mar 15, 2021 11:15 am

I can also confirm that rapid PCR tests do exist, although they are not common. Mine was accepted for entry last week. I don't know if it was "Abbott now", but it was advertised as Rapid-PCR. The report identifies it as a "RDRP Gene" test, which is on the list of approved tests on the Gov't Canada travel website. It was $125 in Denver. Results in 15min.

I can't help you with Buffalo, as I haven't looked. But these options are out there, and I suspect they will become more common.

Good luck!
