A friend of mine did it 2 weeks ago. Returning snowbird. $300 US to anyehere in the GTA. Commercial driver exempt from any Canada regulations. I assume he drives right back to USA. Found him online. Less than a minute at the border. Showed passport and -ve covid test taken in Florida and that was it.

Do you know if the COVID test was done in the US?

I will be doing one of these trips this weekend — flying down, then renting a car and driving back (via Fort Erie).

For those who have crossed from the US to Canada at a land border recently, has your experience been that there are minimal lineups?

For testing that satisfies Canada’s incoming requirements we have chosen to go to a walk-in clinic that does Rapid PCR tests and then provides results certified for travel.

Yes in Florida as a Florida snowbird.

Done this many times. Never ever a car in front of me or behind me. Border agent is usually very bored and lonely and more often than not just wants to have a conversation with another human being after answering the usual questions. The last guy told me that we are just having a conversation after asking me some irrelevant questions.

When driving to BUF there are so few cars that the US agent waits inside the main office and only comes out to the cold booth when he sees a car on the bridge from the camera.

Can you come back with details on this aspect. It would be interesting to know where acceptable rapid tests can be done around BUF.

Please let us know how this goes. I will be doing the same in a few weeks.

Follow up — since quarantine rules , as I understand them, require you to go directly to your place of quarantine — what about returning the rental car? Is that permitted? How is this explained to border officials?

I’ve done this many times with no problem. Same with flying into YYZ. You are permitted to go directly to your final destination. They do not expect you to keep and pay for the rental car for 2 weeks unused. Whether you fly into YYZ and drive your car home or rent a car and drop it at YYZ is the same.

Hi, I wasn't sure where to ask, but I'm thinking of driving across from Canada to USA (YVR-SEA), then is it correct that I don't need any Covid19 test at the moment to enter the USA? Am US citizen, so there is no other restriction? Then if I return by car, I get tested in SEA before hand and then drive back?
Thank you

I do this all the time. Currently zero covid test requirement to enter USA by land.

Oh, that's great, thanks! Currently car rental in that direction is $100, covid test in BC is $300+ plus uncertain turnaround. Also, no car rentals currently available one way in the other direction, but CA car rental lets me drive in the US and then bring it back.

Be careful. Your original statement indicated covid test in SEA. Now you are saying covid test in BC. My understanding is to enter Canada by land covid test must be done in USA.
