Going to school in Canada

I am a green card holder who wants to go to school in Canada with an ETa, I want to attend a funeral in my motherland country, Ghana and from Ghana to Canada with my ETa, is it possible for me?

This is really a question best answered by the school at which you want to study AND the Canadian Embassy. From this page it appears you need a study permit.

Do you have a study permit? You may also want to consider that you could be risking your US residency status by remaining outside the US for a significant period of time. You should seek immigration advice before attending school in Canada.

You need a study permit to study in Canada. Your ETA will only grant access as tourist.

Indeed, it's six months or more outside of US for Green Card to go poof.

I read somewhere that you are able to get an exception up to two years, but don't recall where I read that or what circumstances are.
