Long layover in YVR -> US destination
We will be flying AC from YYZ to YVR, landing at 10AM. We are then leaving from YVR to HNL at 17h45 the same day. We will have checked luggage.
We'd like to get out of the airport and go downtown (using the train).
Now how do we manage the US connection? Do we have to pick up the checked luggage in YVR? If that is the case, then I guess we'll need to store it during our layover. Or if it goes automatically to US customs like they do in YYZ, will they hold them for 5-6 hours?
Anything else I should be mindful of?
Thanks!

This site (http://www.yvr.ca/en/passengers/navi...ssenger-guides) might be useful; hit the left dropdown and select I am ... Connecting From Canada to a US city.
Make sure the bag is checked through to HNL and you will not need to pick it up in YVR. Actually, I never recall having to pick up bags in YVR going Domestic->YVR->US. Enjoy your freedom when you land in YVR!
If you're laying over on a weekday, you will pay $4 each way for the train, or you can pay $9.75 for a day pass. In either case, you will pay a $5 surcharge purchasing at the airport.
Also CBP has given me grief when I was in the "connecting" line when my origin was YVR. There is a possibility of grief if you show up in the originating line but have a connecting boarding pass. But you should be fine. Your story will make a lot more sense: "Just wanted to go into the city during this long connection"

Thank you very much! Once we arrived in YVR, we realized it was a bit too cold based on what we were wearing, so we did not go outside, but at least, for someone else who may check this thread later on, I can confirm what you just said. The bag would simply be held in the system until you show up.
