Overnight at YVR

I'm eyeing a flight where the first leg arrives in Vancouver at 1 am, and the second one leaves at 7 am. MLL is closed at that time. What's the best way to try and get some rest?

The Fairmont YVR is one of the best airport hotels in North America. Treat yourself. Join Fairmont Presidents Club, and your key will be ready when you come to the front desk. Grab it, get straight to sleep, and use mobile-checkout to checkout from your phone while you are walking to your gate in the morning.

I second the Fairmont. If you get an off-airport hotel, your head will be on the pillow for 3 hours at most. You'll get at least an extra hour at the Fairmont.

Canada line still runs then (I think) and it will take you to Bridgeport station, which is only 3 stops away. There is a casino (River Rock) with a hotel there. I've heard it's fine and perfectly situated for the quick getaway in the morning.

If you have the resources, there is a Fairmont right in the airport.

Fairmont is worth the extra $, as is the extra hour or so of sleep.

Canada line is closed by then.

Fairmont is the best bet but if price sensitive maybe the Westin or Delta, which would cut in to sleep time as they are off-airport.

If you have a non-Canada/US city on the itinerary, check to see if your itinerary qualifies for the hotel stop over program.

It's all domestic flights, and the actual wait is 5 hours 44 minutes, so nope on that...

I'll see about the Fairmont. It's a beginning of a leisure trip so I might consider roughing it out, would make the fun all the more intense the next day

Another angle is to look for a flight that arrives in YVR earlier. It could be a wasted night at an expensive hotel if there any delays. Or I would try to get a quick connection, even it is more expensive. It does depend whether you are going east or west. OP should reveal the origin and destination so FTers can suggest creative options.

I'm leaving YYZ at 10 pm, arriving in YVR at 1 am, on to YLW at 7 am, and then trying ride as much of a nearby mountain on a snowboard as I can handle.

This was an Aeroplan booking, so availability is what it is. The biggest problem is that if I wanted a connection of about an hour, I'd spend most of daylight hours on planes, then would not be able to ride the same day. This way I will have a busted night, but then recuperate on the white fluffy snow.

I'm gonna be riding for over a week after the arrival, and lift tickets are about 50% of my overall predicted spending. You could say I'm price conscious . Amex is running a promo for the YVR Fairmont that's about $240 for the night I'm looking at, and I'm afraid I'm too cheap for that. Will take all my soft outer clothing and cuddle with my carry-on somewhere in a corner. I've slept through worse.

For 6 hours (realistically probably 4 hours free), I'd skip the hotel/Fairmont

don't know if Priority Pass lounge (Plaza Premium?) is open

From what I can remember Plaza Premium on the domestic side is only open 0600-2200. So it'd only be open for an hour prior to OPs departure at 0700 to YLW.

The YVR forum on the Sleeping in Airports site has a few suggestions of places to crash -

Wanted to update this with some highly important information regarding places to sleep in YVR.

There is a bobsled on display in a corner somewhere between the gates and the baggage pick up area - a nifty spot to snooze for a single traveller. Too bad it was taken by the time I found it.

One thing that pissed me off a bit was that my luggage did not get checked through from the flight that arrived in Vancouver late at night to the one that was departing in the morning. Is this normal? I was not comfortable just leaving my stuff at the baggage claim area overnight and to get to it you have to exit the "secure" area of the airport, aka the departure waiting area. The problem is that all the soft cushy seats are located by the gates, and the security check points are not operating 24/7! So once you leave that area you cannot return until they open again, nominally at 4:30 but in practice it was about 5 am. And I had to wait for counters to open to be able to check that luggage back in. How annoying!

I'm pretty glad I did not spring for the Fairmont because the inbound flight was delayed by almost an hour, and with checked luggage in tow I would not be able to just stroll in 20 minutes before take off. Would not be enough time to properly rest either way you slice it.

Somehow I still managed to go snowboarding at Silver Star that same day and lasted from 10 am to 4 pm. The fresh mountain air does wonders to the tired body and mind.

I have the same flight as OP arriving at 12:57am from YYZ. My connecting flight to PVG isn't until 11am. My plan is to rent a car from National to drive around. However, they close at 1:30am so I'm worried I won't make it. Any suggestions as to my backup plan?
