Customs check for layover?
My apologies if this is a stupid question or if it's posted on the wrong board or if it's a stupid question posted on the wrong board --
I have an upcoming CX/KA flight that goes JFK-YVR-HKG-PNH
I'm only in YVR for an hour, but wanted to check and see if my bags would have to clear customs or not. I'd like to take a lot of food items back to PNH with me but don't want to if I am going to have to go through any other country's customs. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Sterile transit. IIRC, you can get off the plane but may be kept in a holding pen before re-embarking. The food will be o.k. unless the a/c goes tech and everyone and their bags is forced landside.

You will have to clear CBSA either way. However, if you arrive between the hours of 9:00AM-8:00PM, you can take part of a faster process, similar to Customs B here at YYZ. It is basically a quick passport check (you must be admissible to Canada), however your bags will automatically be re-routed to your connecting flight.
If you arrive after 8:00PM, you must clear full CBSA inspections, including luggage.

It is CX889. I didn't realize it was the same flight JFK-YVR-HKG or that I could stay on the plane. Looks like I'll be on the plane for 20 hours, that is one long flight!
So I am assuming then that I don't need to worry about Canadian customs at all and can load my bag up with food.
