Huge Customs Wait at YYZ

Apparently there are over 1,000 people waiting to clear customs.

There is a picture inside Terminal 1 in the second link.

Truly amazing. I've never seen so many people inside the airport even during "rush hour".

that's crazy... You'd think the airlines and airport officials would know how many flights and passengers are going to be using the airport.

But we have similar issues at US airports quite often. Not enough staff to handle the crowds. IAD used to be really horrible. It has improved slightly for US citizens. But I would never want to arrive here as a foreign national.

Updated Article

Updated article in the star regarding the long wait.

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...son-chaos?bn=1

It says at one point there were approximately 4,000 people waiting to clear customs with only 4 agents on duty.

I find it annoying when people compare a wait in a modern terminal to be similar to "third world conditions". A wait is a wait. lol

But, I've never seen anything like this before.

Yes, this is unacceptable for the behaviors in Canadian customs and this is not real specific time at all. They should have let it go to cleared at Customs fastest and do recommendation no more waits for 10 minutes to get through the customs. They have try to beef up to reductions waits time at Customs Hall. Lots of those people is complaining to against Canadian customs.

The trick would be getting pass the clogged corridors to even get to the immigration hall.

The NEXUS area here even gets pretty chaotic. I went thru a few weeks ago and remember thinking that I probably could have bypassed the kiosk unnoticed. I guess one still needs to present the card at the exit however.

The "exclusivity" one of the commenters on the Star article mentioned is fast becoming a falsehood. There are now over half-a-million Nexus holders, and that number rises every day. The lines at the kiosks will only get longer from here on in...

Is Nexus actually worth the cost now? I mean, last time I travel, the self kiosk at YVR was rather quick. Well, arrival anyway.

With Nexus really only costing $10 per year, It's well worth it for me. But I cross at land crossings about once a month, so there's no option to use a self serve kiosk.
