Connecting in Toronto

Posting on behalf of my manager-- just want to verify something. He is flying from NRT to YYZ, and connecting to a flight to BOS. We think he needs to clear US customs in Canada, but just want to make sure that is the case and he won't end up clearing US customs in BOS. He wants to be sure this is the case, as it will determine whether he checks or carries on bags. Thanks.

Checked bags can be tagged for BOS, but your manager will need to handle them briefly n the US pre-clearance area in YYZ. http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelin...z_intl_us.html

Exclamation new procedure on connecting in YYZ

I connected to a US-bound flight, in YYZ last week, and discovered there is now a new procedure for connecting bags! You don't have to retrieve your checked luggage any longer, it just follows you:

Is it now possible to stay airside? Or does one still have to go through the "security" theatre again?

CATSA is post CBP in the flow; intl arrival might be from a country that does not have DHS TSA compliant security procedure.

No, you still have to go through security (shoes off) after US Customs & Immigration!

TNX for the info.

Weird setup. In YHZ it is the other way round: First "security", then US Immigration. If the security check works, it reduces the risk for US officers. And if you don't pass security, there is no need to undergo the immigration procedure.
