Taking work tools to YVR & back (US)
Question, please:
My husband just found out he's going up to YVR next week to assist with an install (mobile kitchen for Olympics hospitality site). Can he take power tools (no sharp blades or anything) to Canada & back across to US? Is there anything he needs to do before travel? Btw, the tools will be checked baggage ... he has a tool case with wheels specifically for travel since he takes them to various installs.
We have been to YVR for pleasure but never for business.
Many thanks,
Sharon

Get the client or your husband's employer to make sure about the visa situation as he's working in Canada (may be some leeway because it's an installation). As for tools, o.k. to bring them in but he'll have to declare them. Always the risk of theft by airport/airline/baggage handling employees. Do you mean checked? Probably not on the way back from Canada.

Yes, tools will be checked. Always a risk of theft but so far it hasn't been an issue and he's been taking them all about for several months now.
I didn't even consider he needed a visa for work there ... I'll have him check with his company or the GC. He does have a valid passport at least.
Thanks for the info, YVR Cockroach. We were just there in late September for several days and had a wonderful time ... I'd love to go back post Olympics (once all the craziness has passed).
