Do I need a canadian visa for the following route?

I am on a work visa in US and have a return route from frankfurt through Monteal. the route is FRA-YUL-ORD...

YUL-ORD is a united shuttle.

I am assuming that US immigration will happen in Montreal before I board the plane to chicago (since this seems to be a domestic flight). In this case do I need to have a canadian visa to enter Montreal from Frankfurt?

UA helpdesk did not understand my question at all!!!!!!

your help is appreciated

Yes you do (if your nationality requires a visa to visit Canada). Any international flights arriving into Canada is similar to the US - you have to clear customs and immigration at the first port of entry. In addition, you need to clear US customs and immigration at YUL since it's a pre-clearance airport and that means you need to get out of the sterile area at YUL.

If you are an Indian national(I am assuming), yes. I would recommend flying directly into the US.

Yes Sep 11 was an important day, but Nov 11 is still an important date too with 16 million dead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I_casualties
