Arriving @ TBIT from YYZ

I am flying into/out of LAX on LY (El Al) from YYZ . I am flying LY105 YYZ-LAX and LY106 LAX-YYZ. The 105 actually goes TLV-YYZ-LAX and then LAX-YYZ-TLV. Since LY has the rights to take pax from LAX to YYZ and from YYZ to LAX will I need to clear international customs in LAX? There will be a mix of pax on the flight with some coming from TLV and some who have gotten on in YYZ (like myself). Also upon departure will be have to clear emigration/immigration @ LAX's TBIT? If I do not bring my passport will they let us pass customs with the normal documents for Canada->USA immigration (photo ID, government ID) since our boarding passes will say YYZ-LAX.

Hope you understand what I am asking, Thanks

I'm not an expert but I would imagine you would have to clear U.S. immigration at TBIT unless LY forces everyone to preclear in YYZ (which I doubt). No formal exit checks at TBIT or at any U.S. airport. As for document requirements, I would suggest bringing your passport, not to satisfy U.S. or Canadian authorities but LY staff.

FWIW, I think Australia is the only country that lets domestic pax mix in with uncleared international pax and not be rigorously checked on arrival.
