FYI, in most areas in LA, there are not a lot of cabs driving around for hire; you'll have to call for a pickup or go to a hotel or other public area.

Yes, it is about as safe as any ride in a large, metropolitan area in the early morning, by which I mean, use your street smarts. But, the route you would take from LAX to Beverly Hills (non-stop) should not involve driving through any "dangerous" areas.
