Security Problems After Attacks At Oakland Airport
Oct. 11 (AP) — Just days after airports reopened after the September 11 terrorist attacks, security guards at Oakland International Airport were found sleeping at their posts.
Some had abandoned them altogether.
The Oakland Tribune reports airport officials found ABC Security Service workers asleep or leaving their posts unattended 33 times between September 20th and 24th.
The newspaper says the airport warned the security company of the problems on September 24th.
Aviation director Steve Grossman couldn't say at what points the lapses happened. He says ABC sent extra supervisors after receiving the letter.
On Tuesday, the Oakland Port Commission will discuss a plan to replace ABC security workers with Alameda County Sheriff's personnel.
