LGB - Wow!
Hey all... I've been here in Los Angeles for about a year now and had never flown out of Long Beach until today...
All I can is WOW! It was awesome. First off its a TINY terminal (Jetblue, Horizon, American, and mabey one other)..
Well, I was being dropped off so parking was an issue; but nobody hassled us about unloading (which took me about 5 minutes to unload and say my goodbyes (this is well beyond the 'nasty cop' threshold at most airports where they need the space)...
Also, if you do need parking its only $6/day if you park in one of the further (but still walkable) lots. If you want to be right up close its $12/day.
I walked in, there was only 1 person ahead of me to checkin with JetBlue, and you walk mabey 200 feet to get to the terminal from the reservation desk!
Got through security in about 2 minutes.. And though it might be completely irrational, I somehow feel that its likely that JetBlue would be bombed then something like [Insert least favorite bigname airline here].
I used to fly in and out of Binghamton, NY all the time; and when I came to Los Angeles I really started to miss having a small airport.. I've now found one -- and its going to be my new preferred airport!
Overall I had a great experience at LongBeach and also with jetblue. By the way, I forgot to mention that I only arrived about a half hour before my flight -- something you would never want to do at LAX.. But it was zero problem!

Welcome to FT!
We're very lucky to have so many airports here in SoCal as alternates to LAX like LGB. Glad to hear you had such a positive experience.
FYI, you can always use the "edit" feature to correct/clarify a post you written (trust me, I use it a lot).

Welcome to FlyerTalk, sitz121.
LGB is my favorite Los Angeles area airport. It's like stepping back in time, to the 50s. I'm just hoping too many people don't discover it.

You gotta love Long Beach Airport. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a stretch for anyone from north of LAX. If you are in the Southbay or O/C I think you are nuts not to use it. It is probably one of the most convenient airports in the world.
FYI, Burbank, while bigger, is similar, if that works.
You have a trade off as I love the lounges at LAX. OTOH, to arrive 30 minutes before flight time, could never happen at LAX, more so at Terminal 1 where you cringe when you see the lines out the door.
I don't mind so much leaving from LAX, but loathe arriving there. I hate it everytime.
The arrivals level is hell afaik.
With JetBlue at LGB, I think more airlines will be attracted. This was the case years ago with JetAmerica. As soon as JetAmerica was bought out by Alaska, they all dissapeared.
Long live the free market.

For my money, LGB is the most pleasant airport in the US. Pull up to the front door and the airline counters are steps away. There's a second floor restaurant with runway view and reasonable prices (as at LGA once upon a time). The baggage claim area is surrounded by palm trees with tables and chairs providing a comfortable place to wait for your baggage. And the waits shouldn't be long - the aircraft are parked close by. There aren't any jetways, one boards and deplanes via stairways. And here's the clincher, for me at least no idiotic 'security' messages being broadcast over and over on public address systems. Just peace and quiet.
It's like the way things were when flying was fun.
