Cambria lodging?

My granddaughter, 9, and I are going to visit Hearst Castle in October. Lodging suggestions? Burton's is looking good 'cause its downtown and we can walk around. Any other local activities? We like in Santa Cruz, will drive down 101/42.

This is one of those times to look at the AAA or Mobile guidebook.

We did exactly the same trip last summer with some relatives from the east coast. Downtown Cambria sounded great in the guide books but it was almost nothing. By comparison, Capitola Village is about 10 times more interesting.

I suggest you pick one of the motels on Moonstone Beach Drive just north of town. They are just across the street from a wonderful beach with several paths just above the beach. Beautiful setting, enjoyable walks. We stayed at the Sea Otter, which was fine, but there are quite a few others that are just as nice. There are also a couple of nice restaurants on Moonstone as well.

Stay on Moonstone and drive into town for the 15 or 20 minutes you need to check it all out. (Just my opinion, of course.)
