Road through Lassen Volcanic NP finally opens

Finally cleared the last of the snow at the 8,500 foot level today. I'm planning to head up next week. Prior to today, you could enter the north or south ends, and travel a few miles, but you'd have to exit the same way you came in. Now you can travel the full 30 miles on Highway 89 through the park.

UPDATE: SR 89 through @LassenNPS is now OPEN to through traffic!

Definitely a worthwhile road trip. I'd wait a bit so the various sites along the road are open as well. Very different from the other mountain-area national parks in California.

Technical correction: State Route 89 ends at the park border; the remainder of the Lassen Loop within the park is an unnumbered federal highway.

There have been recent wildfires throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. (Not to mention Northern Oregon and Southern California as well, but this thread is about Mt. Lassen. )

Before visiting Lassen, check on the fire/smoke situation. Updates on road status, snow, weather, smoke/fire/air quality can be found here:

Forgot to post some photos from my visit in August, so I'll add some here. Much more currently on the front page of my website.

this is not Lassen Peak below
