My Negative Review MyAir.com (Italy) Budget Carrier
I just wanted to share my recent MyAir.com experience with the FlyerTalk community. On 12/25/2008 I purchased MyAir.com tickets for a trip from Athens to Bari, Italy on Expedia.co.uk for a trip departing on 12/27/2008 and returning on 1/3/2009. The outbound trip was uneventful and the allowed me to catch-up on some sleep.
Unfortunately, on 1/3/2009 when the wife and I showed up at Bari airport at 7 AM for our 9 AM departure there wasnt a MyAir flight listed on the departure board. We went over to the customer service counter since there were no MyAir staff at the airport. First, let me say that the local Bari Airport staff (not MyAir staff) are amazingly nice and helpful. They called up MyAir to find out that on 12/31/2008 they changed their schedule so the flight was now departing out of Bari at 3 PM instead of 9 AM. Unfortunately, that caused a problem for my wife and me as we were catching a 3 PM BA flight out of Athens to London and eventually JFK. The plane was originally scheduled to arrive in Athens at 11:30 AM local time and we were already checked into our BA flight.
The MyAir representative was rude and basically said MyAir changed their schedule for Bari to Athens flights starting on 1/3/2009 on 12/31/2008 and if you need to be in Athens by a certain time then find alternative means. Since MyAir doesnt offer online check-in and since the flight was booked a week in advance I would have never thought that there would be a schedule change or cancellation at last minuteespecially since I confirmed the departure and arrival times when I flew to Bari on 12/27/2008.
The moral of the story is to be careful if flying MyAir when you need to be at a specific place and a specific time. They were adequate on our outbound flight but now I have to figure out how to get a refund for the unused tickets and file a complaint with the EU Commission based on EU Air Passenger Rights.
In the end, we werent the only party that showed up expecting a 9 AM flight but most of the other passengers werent in trying to connect to other flights. British Airlines (BA) telephone representatives wouldnt allow us to connect to our JFK flight in London and there were no other flights via Rome would get us into Athens in time. Thankfully, both the wife and I are CO Plats and we were able to call CO at last minute and arrange OnePass Reward tickets home the next day from Rome to EWR.
I would like to thank the Bari Customer Service staff for their help. They tried to get us on our BA flight leaving out of London or find other means to get to Athens. If I knew you names I would definitely write a letter to your management for going above and beyond the call of duty. Lastly, MyAir.com is on my boycott list. Next time I fly in or out of Italy, MyAir wont be my carrier and wont be getting my money.
