AA / AAdvantage Offers - When is the discount applied?

AA is offering 20% discount coupons (plus double or triple miles) on Budget rentals of 2 or 3+ days:
http://www.aa.com/apps/netSAAver/Vie...omotionContent

I've never used these coupons before - does anyone know when the discount is applied? I enter the AA BCD (U072400) and get an initial quote. Then on the next page, I enter the appropriate coupon code (MUAZ077 or MUAZ084) and click 'Rent It', but there is no change in rate. Is the discount only applied at pickup or return?

The rates that come up already include the AA BCD discount. You can test this by trying the same reservation without entering a BCD (you may need to clear your cache from cookies first). There should be a difference. However, from experience, the discount isn't the same for all vehicles and locations -- i.e., it's a crapshoot.

As for the two coupons you mentioned, you'll be asked to enter them at a later stage, but they are only for double and triple miles and have no effect on your rate.

Cool no different rate

AA, Costco, and AARP all result in the same rates -- save yourself the trouble and just choose one.
