I-PASS scam

In Illinois, tolls are half the cash price when using an I-PASS.

Today I got my bill from Budget for the three tolls I went through last week using the I-PASS, and in each case I was charged the full cash rates instead of the half-price I-PASS rates.

What gives? Is Budget trying to make money off of this, or is it the IL Tollway that is at fault?

Anyone else have this problem?

From budget page

In these areas, vehicles are equipped with a transponder tag. Simply slide open the transponder box on the windshield and drive through a designated I-Pass (Chicago), EZ Pass (Northeast) or AutoExpreso (Puerto Rico)transponder based lane. When you use these lanes, the toll system identifies the car and charges the standard toll fee as published by the toll authority plus the convenience fee of $2.95 per rental day for the entire length of your rental (maximum $14.75 per month). These fees are charged directly to the credit card on file for your rental. If you do not choose to use the dedicated lanes then you must pay any toll fees independently.

Who know the T&C's are ambiguous. What is the standard toll fee

Exactly. In my opinion, the standard toll fee is the fee for I-PASS listed on the IL Tollway website:
http://www.illinoistollway.com/tolls...-by-toll-plaza

It clearly states what the I-PASS charges should be, and what the cash charges should be.
I did not pay cash, I used an I-PASS. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

I'm going to e-mail Budget and see what they say.

Just an update here...
After some back and forth (they clearly didnt read my email correctly the first time], they told me that they do not control how much is charged for tolls and that I need to talk to the Tollway Authority

The use of the I pass is an add-on. if you don't pay for it as part of the rental, but to use it, then Budget charges the going rate. At least now, they are telling you in FL that you will need it and can't pay cash at certain checkpoints.

I would assume that the discounted price given on the toll that Budget pays and that you eventually pay is mostly profit although there is probably a monthly fee for the use of the I pass.

Agree it's annoying, but I doubt you will have much luck fighting it. If you are successful, I want to copy off the smart kid, so please post your paper!
