Why the Royal Mail branding on aircraft?

Just something that got me wondering when spotting at GLA this afternoon

Thanks!

Because BA planes carry Royal Mail on some routes.

The few remaining mail trains also carry branding.

I'd forgotten that. Browsing the list reminds me my father served on one - RMS Andes - on his first voyage in the Merchant navy.

If it wasn't for the demise of the mail train, I wouldn't have such a fine view from my office. I can spend all day watching the aircraft on finals to PLH. ^

Do all BA aircraft have the Royal Mail logo, or is it a select few?

Is that why you became a pilot? Weren't good enough to be a train driver so thought youd give flying a go?

Traintalk belongs in the BMI forum doesn't it?

Slightly OT: Royal Mail also has a little 737 all to itself on hire (from everyone favourite spot hire specialist - Titan)...

Slightly smaller than what jumbodriver ... umm.. drives

got to be honest, the 733F looks pretty nice in royal mail livery.

i'd personally love to see more mail/parcel flights within the UK, i thint that some of the 146's would look great in royal mail livery!

With the Royal Mail brand on the metal, BA are fully covered for late arrivals, damage in transit and pilfering. It is a true global brand. And of course, fully backed by union power and (Labour) government guarantees.

Same as stagecoaches used to!

There is probably a capital offence still on the statute book that makes it a crime to interfere with the Royal Mail!
