I had always thought this, until a few weeks ago. When in the US with a work colleague, he received a text to say his LAX-LHR flight (in 4 days time) had been cancelled and that he had been rebooked on the later flight. It even gave a phone number to call if he didn't want to take that option.

Yes I got a text and an email this morning telling me my BRU-LHR has been cancelled today.

Works like a charm. Oh wait a minute I cancelled that ticket 5 weeks ago

I had a phone call on my mobile from BA a few years ago whilst on holiday in Cyprus to say that my return flight from LCA was delayed 2 hours... shame we had already left for the airport though... we were booked in CE so not sure if that makes a difference.

I think the new functionality is the disability assistance. All the others you list at least have been around for some time.

I've always received a text message if there's been disruption to my flights. Of course I'd rather there be no disruption but at least they're good about informing me.

The airport teams in India have always been good at calling to advise of a delay.

Question

If a text message is sent, but I never received it, e.g. mobile doesn't have reception in that country/battery flat does BA dissolve their responsibility for informing you by any other means (e.g. calling you on a non-mobile number you may have provided)?

I'd still expect a phone call so they know you've been informed, but I get the impression they give you a text message and if you don't act on it the problem is yours alone?

Ah, but did you receive an automatic booking to a later flight for free ?
